New BlackBerry Smartphone Launching Today

Research In Motion (RIM) looks set to unveil a new social networking focussed BlackBerry phone later today, as it bids to reclaim its place at the top table of the smartphone market.
Rumours that RIM is preparing for a grand unveiling stem from a cryptic post on the company’s official Facebook page. The update doesn’t specifically mention a handset and discloses only that we’ve got something shiny and new to look forward to.

Among the possible handsets that could be due are a sequel to the BlackBerry Torch and a rumoured new addition to the Bold range dubbed the 9760.
News of developments comes amid a worsening outlook for the Canadian smartphone giant, as slowing sales yesterday forced it to announce it is cutting 2,000 jobs and is revamping its executive structure in a bid to turn things around.
The beleaguered phone-maker’s fightback started in earnest this week when the Bold Touch 9900 went on pre-order in the UK. The handset teams RIM’s new BlackBerry 7 operating system with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard and a five-megapixel camera.
